Over the past several years, mineral powder makeup has gained popularity among professional makeup artists as well as regular women. Because they do not contain many of the artificial chemicals present in traditional foundation, blush or highlighting powder, mineral alternatives are gentle to sensitive skin. They have a natural UV protection and help your skin stay hydrated. Mineral highlighting powders are a great way to emphasize your cheekbones, focus attention on your lips or make your eyes look bigger and brighter.
Instructions
Cheekbones
- 1Begin with a clean surface. Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face. Follow this with a moisturizer designed for facial skin. Allow the moisturizer to absorb completely before beginning to apply makeup.
- 2Apply your normal foundation and blush. Keep your blush light and neutral, because you will be adding more emphasis with the mineral highlighting powder.
- 3Sweep mineral highlighting powder over the apples of your cheeks and the top of your cheekbones with a large brush. Apply the powder almost all the way to the hairline and gently blend it into the rest of your makeup so there is not an obvious line.

Eyes
- 4Curl your lashes before beginning to apply eye makeup and highlighting powder. Apply eyeliner and eye shadow as you normally would.
- 5Brush a small amount of highlighting powder onto the brow bone, using a small brush designed for eye shadow. Focus your effort underneath the arch of your eyebrow, keeping the powder light.
- 6Apply mascara last, in case any eye shadow or mineral highlighting powder falls onto the lashes while you are applying them.
Lips
- 7Choose your favorite lipstick and apply as you normally would. Combine it with a thick lip balm if you have dry or chapped lips.
- 8Dab a small amount of mineral highlighting powder, with a small brush, just above the center of your top lip. Keep the powder close to the edge of your lip and blend.
- 9Apply a dab of highlighting powder on the center of both lips for a different look. After applying and blotting lipstick, use a small brush to apply and blend the powder. This can help set your lipstick for a longer wear.
